Closure of 4 toll plazas in Punjab |  The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice to Punjab Government regarding a petition filed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) concerning the closure of four toll plazas, including the costliest barrier in Punjab - Ladhowal toll plaza.

Issuing notice to the Punjab Government, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the Advocate General of Punjab to appear for the next hearing scheduled for July 10.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) raised concerns that the toll plazas are being repeatedly closed due to encroachment, with state government ministers allegedly involved in the protests.

The authority argued that such closures are not only disrupting law and order but also causing significant revenue losses.

Meanwhile, during the ongoing protest by farmers at the Ladhowal toll plaza on Sunday, the farmer groups locked the booths of employees working at the plaza and declared it toll-free for commuters.

The farmer groups announced they would end their sit-in at the site, but the toll plaza would remain locked.

The toll plazas across the state closed include - Amritsar-Bathinda Road Usma toll plaza, Chak Bamniya Toll Plaza in Jalandhar, Ghaggar Toll plaza in Ambala and Ladhowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana. According to NHAI, the ongoing closures have resulted in a loss of Rs 113 crore.

Earlier also the closure of these toll plazas was challenged in the High Court by the protesters.
