Centre refuses to place Punjab in ‘A’ category
Chandigarh, December 22: Big blow to Punjab Government as Ministry of State for Home refused to place Punjab in ‘A’ category for the purpose of central assistance in implementing schemes for modernising the police force and stated that there was no proposal made for the same.

Notably, Punjab Government was repeatedly demanding Punjab to be placed in category ‘A’ but central government refused and ordered Punjab to remain in category ‘B’.
Meanwhile, Centre also stated that Punjab will not get more funds.
Notably, the funding category is as follows:
Category ‘A’ state forms (Centre):10 (State)
Category ‘B’ state forms 60 (Centre): 40 (State)
Punjab also faces poor economic condition and is in debt of 3 lakh crores.
