PTC Web Desk: Punjab Roadways contract workers have announced a statewide protest demanding the regularisation of their services. Various unions representing Punjab Roadways employees declared that all bus stands across the state would remain closed for two hours on April 3 (Thursday). Additionally, a complete strike has been planned for April 7, 8, and 9.

Union leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with the recently presented Punjab Budget, stating that it failed to include any provisions for the regularisation of services of contractual employees.

Resham Singh Gill, president of the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC Contract Workers Union, said their demands had remained unresolved for years. Discussions were held with former Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal, Captain Amarinder Singh, and the current Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, but no progress was made.

"We have been negotiating with the government for three years, staging small protests, yet no concrete steps have been taken. We were initially hesitant to strike, considering the inconvenience it would cause to the public, especially women. However, the government's inaction has left us with no choice," said Gill.

The unions have also demanded that the Punjab Government purchase 10,000 new buses to improve the state's public transport system.
