PTC News Desk: In a significant development, Punjab will experience a complete shutdown of bus operations for three consecutive days, starting today and continuing through January 8. The announcement follows a breakdown in negotiations during a meeting between the government and union representatives.

On January 7 and 8, union members will stage a protest in front of the Chief Minister's residence in Chandigarh. The unions have expressed dissatisfaction, citing that their concerns were not addressed during the discussions held earlier.

The protest call has been given by Punjab Roadways and Transport Corporation (PRTC) and Punjab State Bus Service (PUNBUS) employee unions in Chandigarh. The employees will demonstrate in front of the Chief Minister's residence to demand the regularisation of services of contract workers.

As a result, passengers relying on government buses for travel on January 6, 7, and 8 may face significant inconvenience. The PRTS and PUNBUS contract worker unions have been campaigning for the service regularisation of temporary workers. Last month, the unions submitted a memorandum to Punjab's ministers, pressing for the permanent employment of contract staff.
