PTC News Desk:  After the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president, Cabinet minister Aman Arora was on Friday named the new state president, while MLA Amansher Singh (Shery Kalsi) was appointed as the working president. CM Mann made the announcement via a post on social media (X).

Initially, a post was shared by CM Mann appointing Aman Arora as president and Shery Kalsi as vice president, but it was quickly followed by a second post correcting the announcement, stating that Shery Kalsi would be the state's working president.

In the second post, CM Bhagwant Mann wrote, "Today, I have handed over the responsibility of the party presidency to two of my close associates—Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and MLA Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi. The party has decided that Aman Arora will serve as the party’s state president, and Shery Kalsi will work as the working president. I have full confidence in both of them that they will strengthen the party and the organisation in Punjab and take it to new heights in the coming time."

Earlier in June 2023, Professor Budh Ram was appointed as the interim president.

After his appointment, Aman Arora spoke with the media, expressing gratitude for the responsibility entrusted to him and Shery Kalsi. He said, “This is a great honour for me and my close colleague, Shery Kalsi, MLA from Batala. I assure all party workers and leadership that we will meet their expectations. We will take the work done by the government in the last two and a half years to the people and bring their issues to the government for resolution. We will work with the entire team.”

Aman Arora also mentioned that it is rare for a party leader to voluntarily step down from their position, adding that the party organisation had never been fragmented. "Bhagwant Mann and Sandeep Pathak handled it very well," he said, referring to the smooth functioning of the party. "Other parties have had organisational breakdowns, but not ours."

Addressing the challenges ahead, Arora said that challenges were a constant in every field, but they bring opportunities. "We will go to the people based on our work. Every election is important, whether it’s municipal elections or Panchayat elections. We will win four Assembly seats tomorrow," he concluded.
