Agreed to medical aid under immense pressure, says Dallewal; hopes for positive outcome from Feb 14 meeting
PTC Web Desk: jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike, expressed hope for a productive outcome from the scheduled February 14 meeting with the Central Government regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Despite significant health challenges, Dallewal remains committed to the cause but acknowledges the toll his condition has taken on his ability to actively participate.
Taking to PTC Correspondent, Jagjit Singh Dallewal said his health had stabilised somewhat, with injections helping to control acidity and halting vomiting episodes. He credited the pressure exerted by the people and his supporters for his decision to accept treatment, stating, “On the day officers came with a letter for meeting with the Centre on feb 14, there was immense public pressure, with people saying they would launch a fast-unto-death if I didn’t take treatment. Under this pressure, I began treatment.”
Discussing the upcoming meeting, Jagjit Singh Dallewal admitted he might not be fit to attend due to his frail condition but assured efforts were underway to ensure the meeting’s success. “We are working on gathering experts who have deep knowledge of MSP. In the coming days, we will strategise with them to make the February 14 meeting a success,” he said.
While refraining from commenting on his discussions with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), Dallewal said he would definitely join the February 14 meeting if his health permitted. “It all depends on my health. If I’m unable to attend, I will authorise representatives to take necessary decisions,” he added.
Dallewal highlighted the dedication of countless others who were willing to join the protest. Dallewal criticised the government’s alleged attempts to disrupt the protest, stating, “The government wanted to remove me, but we stood firm at the forefront and didn’t allow any action against us.”
With high expectations from the February 14 meeting, Dallewal remains optimistic about a resolution, despite the challenges posed by his health and the intensity of the ongoing protest.
