4 days on, BSF jawan still in Pakistan's custody; efforts intensify for release
PTC News Desk: It has been more than 90 hours since a Border Security Force(BSF) jawan was detained by Pakistan rangers after accidentally crossing the International Border near Ferozepur, Punjab.
The constable has been identified as Purnam Kumar Shaw, a member of the BSF's 182nd Battalion. Despite multiple rounds of meeting between the BSF and Pakistan rangers, the soldier has not been released yet.
He was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time. According to officials, Shaw moved ahead towards a shaded area to rest, during which he crossed the border and was detained by Pakistan Rangers.
The BSF promptly launched efforts to secure his release. Three flag meetings were conducted with the Pakistan Rangers to negotiate his return, but Pakistan has so far denied any knowledge of his location and refused to hand him over. In response to the incident, the BSF has put all units along the India-Pakistan border on high alert.
Efforts to recover the jawan have been stepped up. The BSF has sought another flag meeting at the field commander level with the Pakistan Rangers, and officials indicated that the meeting is likely to happen soon.
