3 women farm union activists killed, several injured as bus on way to Mahapanchayat meets with accident amid dense fog
PTC News Desk: Three women farm union activists of farmer organisation, BKU Ekta Ugrahan were killed and several others critically injured after their bus on the way to Mahapanchayat met with accident owing to dense fog resulting in no visibility.
The accident occurred at Barnala when the bus carrying more than 50 activists of the BKU (Ugrahan), was on its way from Kotha Guru village in Bathinda district to Tohana town of Haryana. “The bus overturned due to its high speed. There was a sharp turn, and the driver must have pressed the brake to slow the bus down, but it overturned,” said a police officer at the site.
“Thirty-one people have been admitted so far. They’ve been taken to Barnala Civil Hospital, some of the critically injured have been referred to AIIMS, Bathinda, and Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for treatment,” the officer added.
The three deceased women have been identified as Sarbjit Kaur (55), Balbir Kaur (67) and Jabir Kaur, all residents of Kotha Guru village (Bathinda).
The passengers kicked off their journey from Kotha Guru village in Bathinda district on their way to Tohana to participate in the Mahapanchayat organised by Samyukt Kisan Morcha.
The police officials have assured the families of post mortem examinations and legal action against the offenders.
