Pro-Khalistan flags: Himachal Police arrest Punjab resident
Dharamsala, May 11: The Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested Harvir Singh, a resident of Morinda in Punjab, in connection with the pro-Khalistan flags hoisted at the entrance of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly at Dharamsala recently. With only six months to go for the Assembly elections in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, the government was under pressure to crack the case at the earliest. Khalistan flags were found tied on the main gate and slogans scrawled on the walls of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on May 8. The Himachal Pradesh Police booked Sikhs for Justice leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun under the Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act and sealed the state’s borders in response. Also Read | India logs 2,897 new COVID-19 cases, 54 deaths Pannun has been booked as the main accused under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and sections 153 A and 153 B of the India Penal Code, besides section 3 of the HP Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1985. The case against Pannun and others was lodged on the complaint of Ram Chand of Kaned village under Dharamshala tehsil of Kangra district. The state police also sealed the borders as Sikhs For Justice claimed the responsibility for the incident. The police have now arrested a Morinda (Punjab) resident and questioning him in the matter. -PTC News
