'Those ready to betray Panth, Punjab, farmers...': Sukhbir Badal's big statement at SAD meet
PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday made a big statement about the alliance with BJP, saying "I had categorically clarified to core committee...I can’t have an unprincipled alliance with BJP."
"I had categorically clarified to the core committee before the poll that I can’t have an unprincipled alliance with BJP. Couldn’t have betrayed Panth, farmers, the deprived sections," Badal said adding, “Those ready to betray Panth, Punjab, farmers & deprived sections are free to follow their course."
The SAD chief's remark came as he chaired the meeting of party district presidents in Chandigarh.
The Shiromani Akali Dal president stated that the party is strongly committed to Panthic principles. "We cannot allow Shiromani Akali Dal to become a puppet for anti-Pantheon designs. Sukhbir Badal stated that the Shiromani Akali Dal is prepared to face difficult times for Panth and Punjab.
"Those keen on personal gains by bartering away Panth & Punjab's dignity are free to follow their wishes," according to him.
At the meeting, 96 out of 105 Halka incharges, with 12 halkas yet to be appointed, expressed complete confidence in Sukhbir Singh Badal's leadership and reiterated that the party will not "compromise on Panthic principles".

District Jathedars also lauded Sukhbir Badal's refusal to form an alliance with the BJP and said, "Party president S. Sukhbir Singh Badal’s refusal to have an alliance with BJP is highly principled, placing values above politics."
The BJP and its agencies are behind attempts to weaken or destabilise the Shiromani Akali Dal. Frustrated elements sponsored by the BJP are trying to form a parallel party or weaken the party internally, the party stated.
Furthermore, Sukhbir Badal urged "frustrated politicians" to learn from Maharashtra. "BJP disbanded regional parties, but people rejected the dummy creation," he said.
