Sanyukt Kisan Morcha to hold 'Chakka Jam' across Punjab on October 25; traffic to remain disrupted for 4 hours
PTC News Desk: Despite the chief minister's assurance to ease the process of improvement in paddy procurement and its lifting, there has been no relief prompting farmers to call for chakka jam. Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has announced that they will disrupt road traffic for 4 hours from 11 am to 3 pm on October 25. The outfit has also announced holding protests at the offices of deputy commissioners across the state on October 29.
With the demonstration, farmers aim to restrict the officials from leaving their offices and halt government operations.
Farmers have also warned that if the purchase and lifting of paddy is not commenced soon then farmers will take another big actions during upcoming by-elections. They have also expressed dissatisfaction towards state government over lack of engagement from the legislators in the mandis.
Earlier on October 19, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann in a meeting with SKM leaders guaranteed streamlined procurement process, following which farmers gave the 4 days ultimatum and vowed to revive the protests afterwards if there is no improvement in the procurement process.
