Punjab MC elections: SAD files petition in HC flagging chaotic scenes during nomination process
PTC Web Desk: The issue of the Municipal Corporation elections in Punjab has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A petition has been filed by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), raising concerns over the chaotic events during the nomination process in various regions, including Patiala.
The petition, filed by lawyer Parmbir Singh, highlights incidents of disruption and violence during the nomination process on December 12, when candidates were filling out their papers. He presented several facts to support the claims, including reports of people stealing files from Congress and BJP candidates and fleeing the scene. These incidents caused significant delays, preventing many candidates from submitting their nominations.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 18, while the Municipal Corporation elections are set to take place by December 21. Senior leaders from both BJP and Congress were present at the scene of the disruption in Patiala and called for action from the Election Commission.
However, leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have dismissed these allegations, claiming that the BJP and Congress were simply afraid of losing, and thus, resorted to such tactics to create chaos.
