Punjab court summons Cong chief Kharge over party's 'poll promise' to ban Bajrang Dal in Karnataka
New Delhi, May 15: A Sangrur court in Punjab has issued summons to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in a Rs 100-crore defamation case filed against him by Hitesh Bhardwaj, founder of Hindu Suraksha Parishad, for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the Bajrang Dal during the recently concluded Karnataka Assembly elections 2023.
In the run-up to the Karnataka Assembly elections 2023, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had allegedly promised to ban the Bajrang Dal in Karnataka.
Hitesh Bhardwaj claimed that the Congress allegedly compared the Bajrang Dal with anti-national organisations and also promised a ban on it after coming to power in Karnataka.
Bhardwaj reportedly moved the court on Thursday after he found that on page number 10 of the manifesto, the Congress had compared Bajrang Dal with anti-national organisations and also promised to ban it if they won the elections.
