Punjab Congress expels six Bathinda councillors for 'anti-party activities'
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Congress has expelled six councillors from Bathinda for five years over allegations of anti-party activities. Former Cabinet minister and chairman of the Punjab Congress Disciplinary Committee, Avtar Henry, issued the expulsion orders, citing their alleged support for AAP during the Bathinda Municipal Corporation elections.
According to Henry, the councillors—Anita Goyal, Sonia, Mamta, Kiran Rani, Suresh Kumar, and Vikram Kranti—allegedly voted in favour of AAP instead of the Congress, which contributed to AAP securing control of the Bathinda seat.
Following complaints, the party had issued show-cause notices to 19 councillors suspected of voting against the Congress during the mayoral elections. While 13 of them responded with explanations, six failed to reply. Their non-compliance led to their expulsion from the party.
The Punjab Congress leadership has also informed the party’s high command about this development. The expelled councillors will remain out of the party for the next five years.
