Punjab gears up for bypoll as Ludhiana West Assembly seat declared vacant after MLA Gurpreet Gogi's death
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Assembly has declared the Ludhiana West Assembly seat vacant following the demise of MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. An official notification regarding the vacancy has been issued, and the Election Commission has been informed.
The Election Commission is expected to announce byelections for the seat soon. This will mark the sixth byelection since the formation of the current government. Earlier, the ruling party had secured victories in the Jalandhar, Gidderbaha, Hoshiarpur, and Dera Baba Nanak constituencies.
Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), passed away on the night of January 10. The 57-year-old reportedly died after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his revolver. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
