PM Modi slams Sonia Gandhi for ‘poor thing’ remark on President Murmu, calls it an insult to tribals
PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticised Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her "poor thing" remark about President Droupadi Murmu, calling it an insult to India's tribal community. Speaking at a political rally in Delhi, PM Modi accused the Congress "royal family" of belittling a "tribal daughter" who has risen to the highest constitutional position.
"Droupadi Murmu ji comes from a tribal background. Hindi is not her mother tongue; she speaks Odia. Today, she delivered an inspiring speech in Parliament, yet the Congress royal family insulted her. One Congress leader dismissed her speech as boring, while another went further, calling her a ‘poor thing,’” PM Modi stated.
He added that such remarks were not just an insult to President Murmu but also to the 10 crore tribal people of the country. "This is an insult to every poor citizen. They enjoy demeaning people, defaming India abroad, and glorifying urban Naxals. Delhi must stay alert—out of fear of defeat, two ego-driven leaders have joined hands," he said, as quoted by ANI.
What did Sonia Gandhi say?
Reacting to President Murmu’s address to Parliament, Sonia Gandhi remarked, “The President was getting very tired by the end...She could hardly speak, poor thing.”
