Cow-related ‘vigilantism’

In recent days, there have been two cases of cow-related 'vigilantism' in Haryana.

On August 23, members of a cow protection group shot dead a 11th class student Aryan Mishra after a car chase on the Delhi-Agra National Highway in Faridabad. The group claimed to have received information about a few 'cow smugglers in SUVs' in the area, and confused the student's car for one of the 'smugglers.'

Five people have been arrested in the case.

On August 27, five men in Charkhi Dadri lynched Sabir Malik, a Muslim worker from West Bengal, because they suspected him of consuming beef. Seven persons, five men and two teenagers are in police custody.
