Northern Railway accepts resignations of Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia
PTC Web Desk: The Northern Railway has officially accepted the resignations of star wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, following their recent move into politics.
Both athletes joined the Congress on Friday. Vinesh Phogat has been selected as the Congress candidate for the Julana constituency in Haryana, while Bajrang Punia has been appointed as the working chairman of the All India Kisan Congress.
In a notice released on Monday, the Northern Railway confirmed the acceptance of Phogat’s resignation, stating: "The resignation given by Ms. Vinesh, OSD/Sports/NRSA/NR on 06/09/2024 has been accepted by the competent authority with immediate effect."
A similar announcement was made regarding Bajrang Punia, who held a comparable position within the Railway Sports Department. Both notices took effect immediately.
Phogat and Punia’s decision to enter politics followed a meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on September 4, which led to Northern Railway issuing a show-cause notice to Phogat before accepting her resignation.
