Tamil Nadu CM urges families to have more kids, warns of state losing parliamentary seat
PTC Web Desk: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has urged residents to have children without delay, citing concerns over the state's political representation due to population-based delimitation. He highlighted that Tamil Nadu's historically successful family planning measures have now placed it at a disadvantage.
Reflecting on the demographic shift, Stalin remarked, “Earlier, we advised people to take their time before having children, but the situation has changed. Now, I urge everyone to act immediately.” He warned that if delimitation is implemented based on the latest population census, Tamil Nadu could lose eight parliamentary seats.
To address the issue, MK Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on March 5, urging political opponents to set aside differences and unite in safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s interests. “This is a crucial moment for our state. We must stand together and protest to protect our rights,” he added.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has invited 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission to discuss the implications of constituency delimitation. He described it as a “sword dangling over Tamil Nadu”, warning of a significant reduction in the state's influence in national politics.
Following a February 25 Cabinet meeting, Stalin reiterated that Tamil Nadu's proactive family planning policies have inadvertently led to this crisis. He called on citizens and political leaders alike to take immediate steps to ensure that Tamil Nadu’s political representation remains intact.
