Mayawati announces nephew Akash Anand as political successor in party gathering
Lucknow, December 10: In a significant move, Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has officially appointed her nephew, Akash Anand, as her successor within the party, excluding responsibilities for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Mayawati will retain her focus on monitoring affairs in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
This pivotal decision was unveiled following a meeting chaired by Mayawati with party workers on Sunday at the BSP's state office in Lucknow. As outlined in the official statement released on Saturday, the party conducted a thorough analysis of its performance in the recently concluded assembly polls in three states, namely Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
Simultaneously, discussions took place regarding the selection of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha assembly elections in 2024. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a historic victory in Madhya Pradesh, reasserting its dominance after having governed the state for 18 of the past 20 years.
This success underscores the party's organizational strength in the state, coupled with the popularity of its initiatives and leadership. Mayawati's strategic succession planning comes at a crucial juncture, positioning Akash Anand to play a pivotal role in the BSP's future endeavors.
