Mamata Banerjee alleges 'BSF allowing infiltration to destabilise Bengal'

PTC Web Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that central forces are enabling Bangladeshi terrorists to infiltrate into Bengal, accusing the Centre of a "nefarious blueprint" to destabilise the state. Speaking at an administrative meeting on Thursday, Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Border Security Force (BSF), which is responsible for guarding the Bangladesh border, is permitting infiltration and mistreating women in the process.

These statements come weeks after Union Home Minister Amit Shah raised concerns about infiltration from Bangladesh disrupting Bengal's peace. The issue has added fuel to the ongoing political clash between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections next year.

India and Bangladesh share a 4,096-km border, much of which is porous and prone to infiltration. "The TMC does not guard the borders. Border security is the BSF's responsibility. If anyone accuses the TMC of allowing infiltration, I will point out that it is actually the BSF’s failure," Banerjee remarked.

The Chief Minister also announced plans to instruct the Director General of Police (DGP) to identify areas where infiltration is being facilitated. "The police and the Centre have all the necessary information. I have received inputs from DGP Rajiv Kumar and local sources. I will send a strong letter to the Centre regarding this matter," Mamata Banerjee added.
