Lok Sabha Speaker Election: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to its MPs, instructing them to remain in the House tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.

The election for Lok Sabha Speaker will take place tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, the Congress party issued a three-line whip to its MPs, instructing them to be present in the House tomorrow.

After failing to reach an agreement on the appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla, the opposition INDIA bloc nominated Congress MP K Suresh for the position of Lok Sabha Speaker.

The opposition had been demanding the position of Deputy Speaker; however, with no clarity from the BJP, the INDIA bloc has proposed Congress MP K Suresh for the Speaker's post.

On the other hand, the BJP has nominated its Kota MP Om Birla for the top post, having previously served as Speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that they had informed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that the Opposition is willing to support the NDA's Speaker candidate if the Deputy Speaker position is given to the opposition.

Rahul Gandhi told reporters on Tuesday, "We have told Rajnath Singh that we will support their Speaker (candidate), but the convention is that the position of Deputy Speaker is given to the opposition."

Rahul criticised Rajnath Singh for disrespecting opposition leaders. "According to today's newspaper, PM Modi has stated that the opposition should engage in constructive dialogue with the government. Rajnath Singh called Mallikarjun Kharge and asked him to support the Speaker. The entire opposition stated that they would support the speaker, but the opposition should be given the position of Deputy Speaker. Rajnath Singh said that he'll call Mallikarjun Kharge back, but he has yet to do so.PM Modi is asking for cooperation from the opposition, but our leader is being insulted," he said.

The speaker's election will be held on June 26. The NDA has a clear majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha, with 293 MPs, while the opposition INDIA bloc has 234 MPs.
