Kangana Ranaut extends invitation to Priyanka Gandhi to watch 'Emergency'; Congress MP responds
PTC News Desk: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut recently invited Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to watch her upcoming film 'Emergency' in which Kangana portrays Priyanka's grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Kangana who is gearing up for her upcoming movie recounted her exchange with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and extended her invitation to watch the film.
“I actually met Priyanka Gandhi ji in Parliament, and the first thing I told her was, ‘Aapko Emergency dekhni chahiye (You should watch Emergency),’” Kangana recounted. “She was very gracious and responded, ‘Yeah, maybe.’ I said, ‘You will quite like it.’”
Emergency will hit the screens on January 17. The film also features Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talpade in key roles.
The film is based on 21 month period from from 1975 to 1977 when former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi imposed emergency across the country citing internal and external threat to the country.
Kangana Ranaut spoke about her portrayal of former prime minister of India and emphasised on the sensitivity and depth she brought to the character. “I believe it’s a very sensitive and sensible portrayal of one episode and one personality. I’ve taken great care to portray Mrs. Gandhi with dignity,” Kangana said.
Reflecting on her research process, Kangana said, “During my research, I noticed a lot of focus on her personal life—her relationship with her husband, friends, and controversial equations. I thought to myself, there is so much more to a person. I have taken special care, not even going into those directions, because when it comes to women, they are always reduced to their equation with men around them, and sensational encounters.”
