Jalandhar West Assembly byelections: Congress names Surinder Kaur as candidate for bypolls
Jalandhar West Assembly byelections: Congress has named Surinder Kaur as the party's candidate for the bypolls on the Jalandhar West - SC assembly seat. Kaur is a former senior deputy mayor of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation.
According to the press release from the All India Congress Committee, "The Congress President, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, has approved the candidature of Smt. Surinder Kaur as Congress candidate for the ensuing bye-election to the Legislative Assembly of Punjab from 34- Jalandhar West - SC Constituency."
Earlier on Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced Mohinder Bhagat as the party's candidate in the Jalandhar West assembly byelection.
The by-elections for the constituency are scheduled for July 10, with the results announced on July 13.
The seat became vacant after Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sheetal Angural resigned on March 28. He has been announced as the BJP's candidate for the same seat.
Angural resigned as an AAP MLA after joining the BJP in March, along with former AAP MP Sushil Kumar Rinku. With Angural's resignation, the AAP's elected MLAs fell to 91 from the 92 it won in the 117-member assembly in the February 2022 assembly elections.
