Hemant Soren set to take over as Jharkhand Chief Minister again ; Champai Soren likely to step down

Hemant Soren, recently released from a five-month stint in prison, is set to reclaim his position as Jharkhand's Chief Minister after the alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and RJD elected him as their leader.

Earlier this year, Hemant Soren had resigned as Chief Minister and subsequently faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Soren obtained bail on June 28 from the Jharkhand High Court regarding a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

However, tensions surfaced within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) as Champai Soren, who took over as Chief Minister after Hemant Soren's resignation, will step down later this evening.

During a meeting at the current Chief Minister's residence, leaders and MLAs of the alliance unanimously decided to elect Hemant Soren as the JMM legislature party leader.

Sources indicate that Champai Soren may be appointed as the JMM's executive president.

The decision to replace Champai Soren comes amidst speculation, fueled by the cancellation of important programs scheduled under his tenure today.

With elections in Jharkhand approaching, scheduled in months, the JMM aims to contest with Hemant Soren as its prominent leader.
