Haryana Election Results 2024: Vinesh Phogat's first reaction after win from Julana Assembly seat: 'Truth Has Won"
PTC Web Desk: In a significant political victory, former wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat has secured the Julana Assembly seat in Haryana. "Truth has won," Vinesh Phogat stated in her first remarks following her electoral success.
Despite the ruling BJP leading with a majority on 48 seats, while the Congress trailed with 37 seats according to the latest updates from the Election Commission, Vinesh Phogat's victory stands out. The BJP’s strong performance in Haryana, securing a potential third term, contradicts earlier exit polls that suggested a possible Congress resurgence in the state.
Remaining optimistic amidst the trends, Vinesh Phogat said, "Let's wait for a moment. When the certificates are issued, the Congress will form the government." The counting of votes from the October 5 Haryana elections commenced at 8 AM on Tuesday.
Vinesh Phogat triumphed over BJP's Captain Yogesh Bairagi, a former Army officer, and Aam Aadmi Party's Kavita Dalal, winning by more than 6,000 votes. Earlier this year, Vinesh Phogat faced a heartbreaking Olympic disqualification, and shortly after joining the Congress on September 6, she was listed as a candidate.
"I am beginning a new chapter. I want to ensure that sportspersons don’t face the challenges we endured," she said.
Last year, Vinesh Phogat was a prominent figure in a lengthy protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former BJP MP.
In her expression of gratitude towards the Congress, she said, "It is only in tough times that one discovers who stands with them. During our struggles, every party, except the BJP, supported us and acknowledged our pain and tears."
