Haryana assembly poll 2024: Haryana AAP sets evening deadline for Congress on poll alliance, ready to contest all seats

PTC News Desk: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana announced on Monday that it would release a full list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections if an alliance with the Congress was not finalised by the end of the day. Haryana is set to vote for its 90 assembly seats on October 5.

Sushil Gupta, the AAP Haryana state chief, expressed that the party is ready to release its list of candidates for all seats by Monday evening. He noted that while no final word had been received from the party leadership on an alliance with the Congress, they were preparing to move forward independently if necessary.

"As the AAP Haryana chief, I am prepared for all 90 assembly seats. We haven't heard anything from the high command about the alliance. If no decision is reached by today, we will release our list for all seats by the evening," Gupta stated.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh added that the party was fully prepared for the Haryana elections and that candidate selection had been completed. The list would be made public once permission was received from the party leadership.

Discussions for a potential pre-poll alliance between Congress and AAP are still ongoing. AAP MP Raghav Chadha, who is leading the negotiations, expressed optimism on Sunday, calling a possible alliance a "win-win" situation for both parties.

Sources suggest that both parties had initially agreed to contest the Haryana elections together. Early talks involved AAP’s Raghav Chadha and Congress leader Deepak Babaria. However, disagreements have reportedly arisen over seat allocations, with AAP seeking around 20 seats and Congress favoring offering seats in the "single digits." AAP is particularly focused on securing key seats such as Kalayat and one seat in Kurukshetra.

Meanwhile, the Congress has already released two lists of candidates, declaring 41 candidates for the 90-member assembly elections. AAP has yet to announce its candidates.
