Haryana Assembly elections: Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat files nomination from Julana constituency
PTC News Desk: Wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat, the Congress candidate for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, filed her nomination papers from the Julana constituency in Jind district on Wednesday.
Phogat, a prominent figure in Indian wrestling, was accompanied by senior Congress leaders, including Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda and Sonipat MP Satpal Brahmachari, during the filing process.
The deadline for filing nominations for the elections, which are set to take place next month, is Thursday. Following the nomination, Deepender Hooda expressed confidence in Phogat’s ability to secure a significant victory for the Congress in Julana.

He also predicted a strong performance for the party across Haryana, emphasizing that the Congress, under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is poised to achieve an absolute majority in the state assembly.
"People have decided that under the leadership of Hooda sahab, Congress must come to power, and the BJP needs to be removed," Hooda told reporters, underscoring the party's momentum in the region.
In the Julana constituency, Phogat will face off against the BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi, a former commercial pilot. Julana is a Jat-dominated region, and the contest is expected to be closely watched, especially given Phogat's stature as an Olympian and her deep ties to the area.
Though Vinesh Phogat is originally from Balali village in Charkhi Dadri district, her connection to Julana comes through her husband, Somvir Rathee, whose native village, Bakhta Khera, is located in the constituency. This local connection is expected to play a key role in her campaign as she vies for support in the region.
