Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: MLA Devender Singh Babli, 2 others join BJP ahead of polls

Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: Three Haryana MLAs have joined the BJP, including Jannayak Janata Party leader Devender Singh Babli, as the ruling party seeks to strengthen its ranks ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections. All three are Jat leaders, among whom the BJP hopes to expand its presence following its dramatic split with the JJP ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

Devender Singh Babli, who represented Tohana in the state assembly, served as a minister in the ministry of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. He was the second JJP minister in the Khattar cabinet, after JJP president Dushyant Singh Chautala.

There is speculation that the BJP would reward him with a ticket to the polls.

There were indications that Singh was initially interested in the Congress, but the state Congress could not guarantee that he would be fielded from Tohana. Several other party leaders have been coveting the seat.

Sunil Sangwan, son of former Haryana minister Satpal Sangwan, and Sanjay Kablana have also joined the BJP.

All three joined the BJP in the presence of general secretary Arun Singh, former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and Haryana unit president Mohan Lal Badoli.
