In a heartfelt post on X, Prime Minister Modi celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's enduring legacy, stating, "On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony, and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen." He also honoured former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, acknowledging his dedication to the welfare of soldiers, farmers, and the self-respect of the nation.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid tribute at Rajghat, reflecting on Gandhi's principles of truth and non-violence that shaped India's freedom movement. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, present at Rajghat, paid homage to the iconic leader who played a crucial role in India’s struggle against British colonial rule. He also honoured Shastri at Vijay Ghat, recognising the former Prime Minister's impactful leadership and vision for the country.

Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated annually on October 2, marks the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in 1869. His philosophy of non-violent resistance led India to independence in 1947. Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, served as the second Prime Minister of India from 1964 until his untimely demise in 1966, shortly after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan. Both leaders remain significant figures in India's history, their contributions and ideals continuing to inspire generations.
