EC gives nod for Delhi Mayor elections on April 26
Delhi Mayor elections: The Election Commission on Monday gave a nod to the Delhi Municipal Corporation to hold elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor on April 26.
The MCD has sought permission from the poll body in light of the ongoing implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha Elections. Due to the Model Code of Conduct in effect, and the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the country, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi must seek permission for the mayoral elections.
EC, in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, NCT of Delhi, stated, "I am directed to refer to the proposal received on April 22, through c-vigil and to state that the Commission has no objection, from MCC angle to the proposal made therein."
Mahesh Khichi, the Aam Aadmi Party's nominee for mayor, and Ravinder Bhardwaj, the BJP's nominee for deputy mayor, are facing off against each other. The Congress party announced the decision to back the AAP candidate.
After the withdrawal of BJP candidates, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates Shelly Oberoi and Aaley Muhammad Iqbal were re-elected as Delhi's mayor and deputy mayor, respectively, last year.
