Delhi CM-designate Atishi expresses gratitude to Arvind Kejriwal, but says 'Goal is to bring back AAP supremo as CM'
PTC Web Desk: Delhi minister Atishi expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for appointing her as his successor on Tuesday. In a heartfelt statement, she acknowledged the unique opportunity provided by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and reflected on her personal journey within the party.
Atishi's appointment follows a legislative party meeting where AAP MLAs initially requested Kejriwal to continue as Chief Minister. However, Arvind Kejriwal nominated Atishi for the role, and her selection was unanimously endorsed by all legislators. Atishi is set to be sworn in as Delhi's new Chief Minister in the coming days, following Kejriwal's resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
“I am deeply grateful to Arvind Kejriwal for placing his trust in me. Such a gesture of confidence is rare and speaks volumes about the AAP’s commitment to nurturing leadership,” said Atishi. She highlighted her modest background, noting that in any other party, she might not have even received a ticket. Kejriwal’s support has been instrumental in her rise from an MLA to a minister, and now to the Chief Minister’s office.
Despite her excitement about her new role, Atishi also expressed sadness at Kejriwal’s resignation. “It’s a bittersweet moment as my elder brother, Arvind Kejriwal, steps down from the Chief Minister’s position. His resignation is unprecedented in the history of Indian democracy,” she remarked.
Atishi committed to working diligently under Kejriwal’s guidance and vowed to focus on achieving the goal of reinstating Kejriwal as Delhi’s Chief Minister in the future. “Delhi has only one Chief Minister, and that is Arvind Kejriwal,” she added.
