Congress fields former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu for Ludhiana West by poll
PTC News Desk: The Congress has announced former minister and working President of Congress Bharat Bhushan Ashu as candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana West bypoll. He is a two-time former MLA from this seat.
His candidature was approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a press release issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The Ludhiana West seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. The date for the bypoll has not been announced yet. Gogi, a first-time MLA, had defeated Ashu in 2022 Punjab assembly elections by over 7,000 votes.
AAP had earlier named Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the Ludhiana West assembly bypoll. Bharat Bhushan Ashu is among prominent Hindu faces of Congress in Punjab.
