Bypoll results 2024: INDIA bloc wins 10 seats across seven states, NDA secures 2

Opposition INDIA alliance won 10 of the 13 seats in seven states, building on their excellent performance in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, which won a record third term at the Centre last month, received only two seats.

Bypoll results 2024: INDIA bloc wins 10 seats across seven states, NDA secures 2

Bypoll results 2024: The Opposition INDIA alliance won 10 of the 13 seats in seven states, building on their excellent performance in the Lok Sabha Elections. The BJP, which won a record third term at the Centre last month, received only two seats.

Punjab

AAP's Mohinder Bhagat won the Jalandhar West constituency by more than 23,000 votes. 


Mohinder Bhagat is the son of Chunni Lal Bhagat, a veteran BJP leader and former three-time BJP MLA and minister, who had previously represented the Jalandhar West constituency.

Himachal Pradesh

The state had a major debut when Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, won the Dehra constituency. The Congress boosted its position by claiming the Nalagarh seat, while the BJP won in Hamirpur.

Following the victory, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the people of Himachal Pradesh have responded appropriately to those hatching "conspiracies to topple the government".

"The people of Himachal granted us 40 seats in 2022. People have responded appropriately to the kind of poaching that happened in state politics in the past," Sukhu stated, adding, "This also sent the message that the people of the state are aware and awake and that such poaching will not succeed."

Uttarakhand

The Congress won both seats in Uttarakhand. Congress' Lakhapat Singh Butola won from Badrinath, defeating BJP's Rajendra Singh Bhandari by 5,224 votes. Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin won the Manglaur seat with a margin of 422 votes over BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana.

West Bengal

TMC won all four contested seats, demonstrating its dominance. TMC candidates Krishna Kalyani won from Raiganj, Mukut Mani Adhikari from Ranaghat Dakshin, Madhuparna Thakur from Bagda, and Supti Pandey from Maniktala.

Tamil Nadu

DMK's Anniyur Siva won the Vikravandi assembly seat by around 60,000 votes. 

Madhya Pradesh

Kamlesh Pratap Shah of the BJP won the Amarwar seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Bihar

Shankar Singh, an independent candidate, won the Rupauli assembly bypoll in Bihar's Purnea, defeating JDU's Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by 8,246 votes.
