BJP leader JP Nadda appointed Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha

Jagat Prakash Nadda, who currently serves as the Union Health Minister and BJP chief, has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the . 

This announcement was made by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on the opening day of the 264th session of the Rajya Sabha, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also present. 


Nadda takes over from Piyush Goyal, who has moved to the Lok Sabha after being elected there.

Nadda, originally from Himachal Pradesh, assumed the role of Union Health Minister on June 11 and also holds the portfolio of Chemicals and Fertilisers. 

He previously served as the Union Health Minister from 2014 to 2019 during the BJP-led NDA government. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP representing Gujarat.

The 264th session of the Rajya Sabha started on June 27 and will continue until July 3, coinciding with the commencement of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 24, where newly-elected members took their oaths. 

President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of both Houses on Thursday.
