Bihar political turmoil: BJP leaders to meet in Patna amid reports of Nitish Kumar's 'ghar wapsi'

Bihar political turmoil: Amid reports that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the saffron party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Vinod Tawde announced that a meeting of Bihar BJP leaders will be held in Patna over the weekend.

"There is a meeting of Bihar BJP leaders to discuss the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Tawde said that the Bihar BJP's state executive meeting has been scheduled for the 27th and 28th of January in Patna.

"Bihar state BJP committee, state BJP MLAs and MPs will hold a meeting today to discuss the Lok Sabha Elections," the official said.

The meeting comes as speculation grows that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he left in 2022 to form 'Mahagathbandhan' with the opposition.

Several NDA leaders, including former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, have indicated that the JD(U)-RJD alliance has broken down.

According to sources, Nitish Kumar is set to take the oath as Chief Minister of Bihar's new Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance on January 28. Sushil Modi, a prominent BJP leader, is set to be sworn in as his deputy.

If Nitish crosses over, it would be the fourth time he has switched sides. In Bihar's 243-member Assembly, the RJD has 79 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 78, the JD(U) with 45, the Congress with 19, the CPI (M-L) with 12, two each of the CPI(M) and CPI, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) with four seats, and the AIMIM with one, plus one Independent legislator.
