Amit Shah rules out restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir; calls it 'history'

PTC Web Desk: Unveiling the manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah firmly dismissed the possibility of restoring Article 370, a provision that granted special status to the region before it was abrogated in 2019. Amit Shah stated that the provision had "become history" and won't be reinstated.

In contrast, the National Conference, contesting the elections in alliance with the Congress, has included the restoration of Article 370 in their manifesto. This election marks the first Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014 and will serve as a key indicator of public sentiment regarding the removal of the provision.

During his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Amit Shah emphasised the importance of the region to the BJP since Independence. He highlighted how the party has worked to strengthen its connection with India, noting that before 2014, separatism and terrorism were prevalent in the region. Shah remarked that "the years between 2014 and 2024 will be written in golden letters" when the history of Jammu and Kashmir is recorded.
