Amit Shah reviews Manipur security, orders free movement from March 8
PTC Web Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Saturday to assess the situation in Manipur. He directed officials to ensure unrestricted movement of people across all roads in the state from March 8, warning of strict action against any obstructions.
Emphasising the Union Government's commitment to restoring peace in Manipur, Amit Shah instructed the authorities to fast-track border fencing at designated entry points along the international border and intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks.
"Strict measures must be taken against extortion, and the border fencing work should be expedited to strengthen security," he stated.
This was the first security review chaired by Amit Shah following the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur on February 13, after N Biren Singh stepped down as Chief Minister. The state Assembly, with a tenure until 2027, remains under suspended animation.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, state government officials, top Army officers, and senior officials from paramilitary forces.
