PTC Web Desk: In a setback for Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra, representing Amargarh, the Mohali district court has rejected his bail application. Gajjan Majra, who is facing charges in a Rs 41 crore bank fraud case, will now have to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for relief.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested the Punjab AAP MLA on December 6, 2023, and he has been in jail since. Prior to filing the bail plea in the district court, Gajjan Majra had withdrawn a petition from the Supreme Court, where he had challenged his arrest and remand in connection with the money laundering case linked to bank fraud.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began its investigation into the case in May 2023, after reports of a Rs 40 crore fraud surfaced. Following a raid, the CBI handed over the case to the ED, which registered a loan fraud case against the MLA in September the same year.

During the raids, the authorities seized Rs 32 lakh in cash, several mobile phones, and hard drives from his properties. Gajjan Majra, who had earlier claimed that he would only draw a symbolic salary of Rs 1, was subsequently arrested.

Since his arrest, Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra has been lodged in Nabha Jail. During his time in custody, he reportedly suffered injuries after slipping in the jail and was admitted to a hospital. He was later hospitalised again due to illness, sparking controversy. Opposition parties accused the government of offering him VIP treatment under the pretext of medical care. However, following public outcry, Gajjan Majra was sent back to jail.
