Coronavirus: PM Narendra Modi to address the nation tomorrow at 10 am
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the nation at 10 am on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. The address will come on a day when the current 21-day nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in India comes to an end. The Prime Minister is expected to announce an extension to the lockdown for at least two more weeks but likely with some relaxations. The hint at lockdown extension was dropped by the Prime Minister himself during his video-conference with chief ministers on Saturday last week. During the meeting, the PM had said that while ‘jaan hai to jahan hai’ was the motto during the initial phase of the 21-day lockdown, the mantra would change to ‘jaan bhi, jahan bhi’ when the lockdown is extended, a report suggested. https://twitter.com/PMOIndia/status/1249620775679610880?s=20 Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also attended the video conference, took to Twitter and wrote: "PM has taken correct decision to extend lockdown. Today, India’s position is better than many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is imp to extend it." As per the report, the Centre may allow some sectors and industries to partially open and work with minimal staff in an order to limit the lockdown’s impact on the economy. According to a report of news agency PTI, the Central government may categorize the country into three zones - red, orange and green - on the basis of the number of coronavirus cases in a given area. During the extended lockdown, while no activity would be allowed in a red zone, small scale industries and liquor shops may be allowed to operate in the green zones. However, all the schools and other educational institutions would continue to remain closed. An orange zone where only a few cases have been reported with no increase in the number of patients. This will be the zone where limited public transport and agriculture harvesting may be allowed. The red zone would be one where a huge number of coronavirus cases have been reported and where some areas have been declared as hotspots of the novel coronavirus. -PTC News
