PM Modi pays tributes to martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre
New Delhi, April 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to "martyrs" who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and said that "their courage and sacrifice will keep motivating the coming generations." "Tributes to those martyred in Jallianwala Bagh on this day in 1919. Their unparalleled courage and sacrifice will keep motivating the coming generations," the Prime Minister tweeted. He also shared his speech at the inauguration of the renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak last year.
Also Read | CNG, PNG prices up in Mumbai; check new rates The Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred on April 13, 1919, when British Indian Army troops led by Colonel Reginald Dyer, fired machine guns into a crowd of unarmed protesters and pilgrims assembled in Jallianwala Bagh in Punjab's Amritsar on Baisakhi. The crowd had gathered peacefully at the site to protest the arrest of two national leaders, Satya Pal and Saifuddin Kitchlew when General Dyer and his troops opened fire on them indiscriminately. According to British government records, 379 individuals were killed in the shooting, including men, women, and children, and 1,200 were injured.
