Petrol, diesel prices remain unchanged for fifth day in a row; check rates
Fuel prices today: In a relief to the common man, prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged for the fifth consecutive day on Monday across metro cities in India, after being hiked 14 times in the last 20 days. In Delhi, the price of petrol now stands at Rs 105.41 per litre and diesel cost Rs 96.67 per litre. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, petrol is retailed at Rs 120.51 per litre and the rate of diesel is Rs 104.77 per litre. People have to shell out Rs 110. 85 for one litre of petrol in Chennai, while diesel rates stand at Rs 100.94 per litre. In Kolkata, the prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 115.12 per litre and Rs 99.83 per litre, respectively. The rates of petrol and diesel are are the highest in Mumbai among all four metro cities. Despite the rise in crude oil prices, fuel prices had remained stable for over four months, however, the rate revision ended on March 22. After 14 rate revisions, the price of petrol and diesel has soared by Rs 10 per litre. The fuel prices were kept on hold amid the crucial assembly elections in five states - Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. According to Moody's Investors Services, state retailers together lost around $2.25 billion (Rs 19,000 crore) in revenue for keeping petrol and diesel prices on hold during this election period. Meanwhile, state-run oil companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum change fuel prices daily, taking into account international crude oil prices and rupee-dollar exchange rates.
