Petrol and Diesel Prices in India Today: The fuel prices have been hiked again on Monday, July 5, according to data released by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
In Delhi, the petrol price was inching towards the century mark. The prices have been hiked by 35 paise from Rs 99.51 per litre to Rs 99.86 per litre while the diesel prices in Delhi were constant at Rs 89.36 per litre.

In Mumbai, the petrol rate was hiked by 24 paise from Rs 105.58 per litre to Rs 105.92 per litre.

This is the fourth fuel price hike in the month of July. The prices were hiked 16 times in both May and June. Interestingly, the fuel prices started to increase only after the results of West Bengal Elections 2021 where BJP was swept out by Mamata Banerjee.

The fuel prices rates vary across the states in India due to value-added tax and excise duty.
Likewise, former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that "From Rs 81 per litre in Jan to Rs 100 per litre today, in 6 months the petrol prices have skyrocketed and crippled the common man!"
"This rampant loot in the name of tax by Centre and Punjab govt has created havoc for the citizens. Fuel prices along with Power Cuts have crippled Punjab like never before," she added.
