Overview of Skin Cancer- Common Types and Symptoms
Skin cancer is an irregular growth of skin cells. This abnormal growth of cells can develop in areas that are exposed to the sun. Sometimes it can happen at those places on skin that normally doesn’t get exposure. There are two categories of skin cancer:
Melanoma

The first category of skin cancer is Melanoma. There are cells called Melanocytes that give your skin color. The benign moles formed by melanocytes can become cancerous at times. It can develop at any part of your body.

In women especially, these moles are more likely to develop on the leg area. In men, these moles are more likely to develop on the chest and at the back. In most of the cases, these melanomas can be cured, if identified at an early stage. If left untreated, they could spread to other parts of the body. And once it happens, it becomes very hard to treat.

Keratinocyte carcinoma
The second category is basal and squamous cell skin cancer. These both are the some of the most common types of skin cancer. They are most likely to develop on the areas that get the most sun, like your head and neck. They are less likely than other forms to spread and less likely to become life-threatening. But it doesn’t mean that it could be left untreated. If done so, it could spread to other parts of the body.

Symptoms of skin cancer
All types of Skin cancers are not identical. Also, they may not cause many symptoms. Still, any unusual change to your skin can be a warning sign of cancer. Therefore, it is advisable to be alert for changes to your skin.
