Odisha Hockey World League Final : Lions prevail over Sticks to finish fifth: In a battle of the Reds of World Hockey, Lions prevailed upon Sticks to take fifth position in the Odisha Hockey World League Final at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
With this win, Belgium - Red Lions - reiterated their supremacy over their European opponents - Red Sticks - as earlier in a pool match, they had beaten Spain 5-0.
The all important goal for Belgium came in the ninth minute when Dockier Sebastian scored. Though the sky was overcast and the game was sprinkled by light drizzle, the game saw fast and crisp hockey as both Belgium and Spain tried to outwit each other in the hit and run of play. Retaining their cool and early first quarter lead, Belgium, number three in the world, looked a better side against the ninth ranked Spain.
Though Spain had its share of chances but could not break the strong Belgian defence.
Belgium (5), Spain (6), Holland (7) and England (8) have already finished their engagements in the 3rd edition of Odisha Hockey World League final.
