The gunman who opened fire at a cop during the Northeast Delhi violence was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. He has been identified as Shahrukh. As per the report, he has been missing since last week when the Delhi police launched a search operation against him.
47 people died in violence
At least 47 people, including a police head constable Ratan Lal and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, have died while more than 200 people have sustained serious injuries in the violence.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament said that "I told him that whoever is found guilty for Delhi Violence should be given strict punishment. He added that "Delhi Police has acted in a swift manner to control the situation when the rumors spread on Sunday night. If the police had acted with the same efficiency on Monday and Tuesday last week when riots were confined in a district, so many lives could have been saved."

Shahrukh had fired 8 rounds during the violence
Allegedly, Shahrukh had fired eight rounds during the violence in Maujpur area near Jaffrabad and aimed fire at the police constable. Also, he is allegedly a relative of criminal Irfan, aka Chhenu Pehalwan, who is currently in prison. Shahrukh was a passionate bodybuilder and used to gym frequently in Yamuna Vihar.
Delhi Police on Thursday transferred the investigation to the crime branch. Meanwhile, two Special Investigation Teams, led by the Deputy Commissioners of Police Joy Tirkey and Rajesh Deo, will be investigating the case.
