No permission to transfer foreign medical students in Indian medical institute: NMC
New Delhi, July 26: No permission has been granted by National Medical Commission (NMC) to transfer or accommodate any foreign medical students in any Indian medical institute/university said MoS Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pawar on Tuesday. As per the information, Health and Family Welfare Ministry issued a statement in a written response to a query on if the NMC has not approved the decision of states to allow admission in their medical colleges to Indian medical students returning from war-torn Ukraine. Also Read: Haryana Police arrest nine persons in Nuh DSP killing case As per information received from MEA, Indian Embassy in Kyiv has communicated with all the concerned Universities in Ukraine for providing transcript and other documents in a smooth manner to the students. As per the sources from MEA, about 20,000 Indian students returned from Ukraine. Foreign Medical Students/Graduates are either covered under "Screening Test Regulations, 2002" or "Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021": MoS Health & Family Welfare. Thus, as per the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and National Medical Commission Act 2019 there is no such provision and regulation to accommodate or transfer medical students from any foreign medical institutes to Indian medical colleges. Meanwhile, the returnee students will have to comply with Screening Test Regulations, 2002 or Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021.
