Navratri 2021: From significance to diet tips; all you need to know
Shardiya Navratri 2021: Navratri is right around the corner and is considered as one of the biggest Hindu festivals. The festival spans nine nights where people worship Goddess Durga.
The word Navratri has been derived from Sanskrit, 'nava' means nine and 'ratris' night. This year it will be celebrated from October 7 to October 15.

Significance of Shardiya Navratri
People believe that during this period, Lord Shiva granted permission to his wife Goddess Durga to see her mother for just nine days. It was during this period when Goddess Durga defeated demon Mahishasura and that's why her Maa Kali avatar is represented as a symbol strength.
On the final day, Vijaya Dashami, the idols are carried out in processions and immersed in water. The celebrations vary by region and local culture. Unmarried girls are worshipped and fed, they are treated as incarnation of Goddess Durga.
