Navjot Sidhu to serve as clerk at Patiala jail, will work from cell for security reasons
Patiala, May 26: Former Punjab Congress head Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment recently, will serve as a clerk at the Patiala Central jail. According to reports, he has been appointed ‘assistant’ (munshi) to do clerical work at Patiala Central Jail. Further, the cricketer-turned-politician, prisoner number 241383 placed in barrack number 7, will work from his cell and will not go out for work because of security concerns. The jail official informed that files will be sent over to his barrack. It has been learned that Sidhu will work in two shifts: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. According to authorities, he will be trained for his work behind the bars for three months. Sidhu will be paid between Rs 40 to Rs 90 per day after completing his three-month training. Notably, Sidhu is lodged in the Patiala Central Jail in a 34-year-old road rage case. He was sentenced to one year in prison by the Supreme Court on May 19 after which he surrendered to the Patiala trial court on May 20.
