Youth dies amid clash with Haryana police at Khanauri border

PTC News Desk: Amidst the ongoing farmers' protest 2.0, a distressing incident unfolded on Wednesday at the Khanauri border, marking the first casualty as a 24-year-old protester succumbed to severe head injuries inflicted during a clash with the Haryana Police according to the reports. Shubh Karan Singh, the young protester, tragically lost his life despite desperate appeals for peace from various quarters.

The escalating tensions culminated tragically when Singh, amidst the chaos of tear gas shells dropped by the Haryana Police, sustained grave injuries to his head. Despite swift transportation to a nearby hospital, medical sources confirmed his untimely demise. The incident marks a pivotal escalation in the ongoing protests that have gripped the region since February 13, as farmers from Punjab had announced a march towards Delhi, only to be halted at the border between Punjab and Haryana.

Prior to the official confirmation of Singh's demise by hospital authorities, the Haryana Police had released statements refuting claims of any fatalities during the clash. On Wednesday afternoon, amidst the heightened standoff, the Haryana Police maintained that no protester had succumbed to injuries, labeling such reports as mere rumours. According to their statement, both police personnel and protesters had sustained injuries during the clash at the Data Singh-Khanauri border, with all injured parties receiving necessary medical treatment.

The confrontational situation at both the Khanauri and Shambhu borders reached a critical juncture as farmers, frustrated by the lack of progress in talks with central leaders, attempted to breach the barriers erected by the Haryana Police. In response, law enforcement resorted to the use of tear gas shells to disperse the advancing protesters, further exacerbating the already tense atmosphere.

The tragic death of Shubh Karan Singh serves as a stark reminder of the escalating tensions and the human cost of the ongoing farmers' protests. As the standoff between farmers and authorities persists, calls for dialogue and peaceful resolution echo louder than ever, urging all parties to prioritise de-escalation and constructive engagement to prevent further loss of life and restore tranquility to the region.
